Sergey Lavrov (Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia) plans to visit Cyprus on Tuesday 8th September. This is not his first visit to the island.
Last visit, November 4, 2019, the main topic of discussion was negotiations on the unification of the island . The Russian authorities believe that a political agreement will be signed between Cyprus and Turkey on a peaceful life in the neighborhood for both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
Less than a year has passed and the Russian Foreign Minister is planning a visit to the island again.
The minister’s trip is timed to coincide with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations between the countries.
Lavrov is scheduled to discuss with the Cypriot leadership the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic in the most affected areas of bilateral cooperation. In addition, the parties will exchange views on international and regional issues, including the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Cyprus settlement.
Also during Lavrov’s visit, it is expected that a plan of consultations between the Russian Foreign Ministry and Cyprus for 2021-2022 will be signed.
The next day, as planned, the minister will take part in the videoconference of the Foreign Ministers of the East Asian summit and on the sidelines of the Foreign Ministers Council the SCO will hold separate meetings with his colleagues from India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan.
