Russia calls for avoiding destabilizing actions on the Cyprus EEZ

Russia is closely monitoring developments in the exclusive economic zone of the Republic of Cyprus (EEZ) and calls for avoiding actions that could lead to destabilization and increase the likelihood of crises in the region. This was reported by representatives of the embassy of the Russian Federation in Cyprus in an interview with CNA.

The conversation took place regarding the presence of the Turkish Yavuz drilling vessel in the territorial waters of Cyprus for drilling in an area that covers part of exploration blocks 6 and 7, which were licensed by the ENI and TOTAL consortia.

The embassy also noted in its statement that “this situation once again confirms the need to achieve a permanent, viable and equitable settlement of the Cyprus problem, which will reflect the interests of the Cypriots themselves, as well as the goal of ensuring peace, security and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean.”
