Nissan Motor, Renault and Mitsubishi Motors announced today the new strategic alliance, in order to use the power of each side and reduce costs.
Nissan will lead the way in autonomous driving, while Renault will do the same for connected car technologies, the companies said.
Each member of the alliance will deal with specific areas where it has key areas of power.
Nissan will lead China, North America and Japan, while Renault will be the benchmark for Europe, South America and North Africa.
Mitsubishi Motors will be the reference point for Asean and Oceania.
The companies said that about 50% of their models will be developed and produced under a leader-follower agreement from 2025.
The president of Renault announced that the alliance has become stronger and companies do not need a merger to be effective.
