Tourists from more than 30 countries will receive Cyprus from Saturday, while based on the new preliminary categorization prepared by the members of the special scientific committee, which may be revised before a final decision is made, the island opens its borders for more European countries since France, Italy and Belgium have been added to Category B.
The scientific committee is expected to present the updated data to the President of the Republic during the new meeting to be held at the Presidential Palace on Friday morning, while at the same time Nikos Anastasiadis will be briefed on the epidemiological picture presented by Cyprus in the last two weeks.
According to information from the newspaper “Phileleftheros” regarding the countries from which Cyprus will accept flights but also the categories in which they have joined, in Category A ‘for which a certificate with a negative indication to the coronaio will not be required, will They include more than 20 countries, including Australia, Austria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Malta, Norway, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Slovenia and South Korea.
Category B, which requires the presentation of a certificate by passengers upon arrival at Cypriot airports, will include, among other things, if no changes occur in the next twenty-four hours, Belgium, France, Israel, Italy, Lebanon, Jordan, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania and the United Arab Emirates.
In the final categorization, of course, it is not excluded that some of the countries which in the preliminary presentation of the scientists are included in Category A, to be transferred to Category B and vice versa.
At the same time, it is not ruled out that new restrictions will be imposed or that more relaxation will be given to special groups of people who are entitled to enter the Republic of Cyprus from countries that are not included in either category.
According to Professor Konstantinos Tsioutis, a team of scientists has been set up to monitor the epidemiological situation in all countries on a daily basis and to review the Categories according to the picture presented by each state separately.
“When we see a sudden outbreak in a country, the data automatically changes. We need to have a daily update of the data, “he said. At the moment, he said, “a list has been prepared, a report but we have not yet reached a final proposal.”
Regarding the epidemiological picture presented by Cyprus, the professor said that “it is still extremely good” and claimed that “this shows us that the people are still following the measures”.
“This shows that the people of Cyprus know what measures they need to take to protect themselves and those around them. We are optimistic that people will continue to implement them so that we can slowly return to normalcy but under the safe conditions we have now, “he added.
